PhD POSITION AVAILABLE AT GOLDSMITHS – DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTING
One doctoral studentship funded by the European Union FP7 is available immediately in the Department of Computing, Goldsmiths, University of London. Applicants are welcome to apply for a 3 year funded PhD programme. The successful student will work under the supervision of Prof. Frederic Fol Leymarie, as part of a research team funded by a 4 year EU FP7 grant, “CEEDs: The Collective Experience of Empathic DataSystems” .
A (non-taxable) stipend of £19250 per annum will be provided. Students will be expected to pay their own university fees (presently £3500 pa).
Applicants should have a good first degree (1st class, high 2:1, or equivalent) in computer science, engineering, mathematics or a closely allied discipline. Applicants will normally be expected to hold a Masters degree in an area related to one or many of: Image Processing, Computer Vision, Computer Graphics, Computational Geometry, Artificial Intelligence (or demonstrate equivalent knowledge, for example gained from professional work). The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong aptitude and motivation to work in a research team undertaking both collaborative and individual research projects in a scientifically rigorous way. We are also looking for a candidate who will be able to work and present research at national and international scientific meetings, and submit research manuscripts for publication on a regular basis. The candidate must be fluent in English, spoken and written. The selected candidate will be interacting on a regular basis with various members of the CEEDs consortium.
The focus of the research will be search technologies and visualisation for large complex datasets of images (2D or 3D) and associated data and meta-data, of objects found in specific applications, such as archaeology, bio-informatics, natural science heritage.
